The J. K. Rowling’s debut adult novel starts selling in Ukraine
Today the sale of the Ukrainian version of "The Casual Vacancy", J. K. Rowling’s first adult novel, started.
This was announced at the press-conference by Ivan Malkovych, the head of A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA Publishers and an editor of the book.
“I believe they already managed to deliver the book all over Ukraine and the readers will be able to enjoy the J. K. Rowling’s adult debut today,” I. Malkovych said.
Victor Morozov, the translator of “The Casual Vacancy”, skyping from Washington D.C. during the whole presentation, said that “the characters there sometimes swear heavily, and there was a big discussion how to remain everything as in the original, but at the same time ensure that the swearing sounds not that very rude.”
Taras Malkovych, the co-translator of the book, said that during his work he even consulted his drug therapist acquaintances to translate all the “drug stuff” into Ukrainian in the proper way.
Ivan Malkovych told everyone about the last-day incident during the preparation of the book: on the last day before submitting the book to the printing factory two very serious female proofreaders have read “The Casual Vacancy” to the end and made a huge scandal afterwards, that almost caused a fight, arguing about the behavior of individual characters and the book’s end. The next day they apologized for a long time, and this suggests that the novel is really “palpitating”. You would want to dwell upon it for a long while, to associate (or not) yourself with its characters, to discourse long and painfully upon the challenges and seductions of the contemporary world, so familiar, so common for every modern society...
A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA has also prepared a pleasant surprise for J. K. Rowling's fans. 20 copies of “The Casual Vanancy” will be sold with the genuine autographs of J. K. Rowling. She wrote them on a special adhesive paper, sticked on the book’s title sheet. Every signature like that is also “certified” with a special hologram.
One of such “Casual Vacancy” copies was also assigned as a prize within the presentation.
The initial circulation is 10 000 copies.
